For thousands of NEET aspirants, the waiting period after the re-exam has finally reached an important stage. The NEET 2026 official provisional answer key by NTA has been released for the re-examination held on 21 June 2026.
This is a crucial update because students can now compare their responses with the official provisional answer key, estimate their expected marks, and decide whether they need to raise an objection against any answer.
But students must understand one important point clearly:
The provisional answer key is not the final result. It is the first official step before the final answer key, OMR verification and result declaration.
At VVT Coaching, we advise students not to panic, not to depend on random answer keys, and not to calculate scores emotionally. Use the official answer key calmly, check your responses carefully, and follow the NTA process if you find a genuine issue.
NTA has released the provisional answer keys for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination conducted on 21 June 2026. The provisional answer key is available for the major test booklet codes, including Code 50, Code 60, Code 70 and Code 80.
Along with the provisional answer key, NTA has also opened the answer key challenge facility. This allows candidates to raise objections if they believe any answer in the provisional key is incorrect.
| Particular | Details |
| Exam Name | NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination |
| Re-Exam Date | 21 June 2026 |
| Provisional Answer Key Release Date | 25 June 2026 |
| Answer Key Challenge Window | 25 June to 28 June 2026 |
| Challenge Fee | ₹200 per question challenged |
| Fee Refund Rule | Refunded fully if the challenge is accepted |
| Booklet Codes Covered | 50, 60, 70 and 80 |
| OMR Sheet Status | Individual scanned OMR sheets will be available separately after scanning is completed |
| Final Answer Key | To be released after expert review of challenges |
| Result | To be declared after final key and OMR processing |
This table is important because many students are mixing three different things: provisional answer key, OMR response sheet and final answer key. They are connected, but they are not the same.
This is the most important clarification.
As per the current NTA notice, the individual scanned OMR response sheets are not part of this stage. NTA has said that OMR scanning is still in progress and candidates will get a separate opportunity to view their individual scanned OMR response sheets once scanning is completed.
So students should understand the difference:
| Item | Current Status | Purpose |
| Provisional Answer Key | Released | To check official answers and raise objections |
| Answer Key Challenge | Open | To challenge doubtful answers with proof |
| Individual Scanned OMR Sheet | To be made available separately | To verify your marked responses |
| Final Answer Key | To be released later | Used for final evaluation |
| NEET Result | To be declared later | Final score and rank |
This means students can calculate an expected score using the provisional answer key and their own recorded answers. But once the OMR sheet is available, they should cross check again using the official recorded responses.
Students can follow these steps to download the NEET 2026 provisional answer key:
Students should make sure they check the correct booklet code. If your booklet code is 50, do not calculate using Code 60, 70 or 80. A wrong code can completely change your score calculation.
The scanned OMR sheet will be available separately once NTA completes the OMR scanning process.
Once released, students will likely need to follow these steps:
Until the individual OMR response sheet is available, students should not panic. The answer key challenge process has started first, while OMR scanning continues separately.
NEET score calculation is simple if you follow the official marking scheme correctly.
The marking scheme is:
Use this formula:
NEET Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 4) – (Number of Incorrect Answers × 1)
If a student has:
Then the score will be:
145 × 4 = 580
25 × 1 = 25 negative marks
Final expected score = 580 – 25 = 555
So the student’s expected score will be 555 out of 720.
Students should not calculate dropped questions casually.
NTA has specific rules for such cases. If more than one option is found correct, marks are awarded according to NTA’s final decision. If a question is dropped or found wrong, NTA applies the official rule while preparing the final result.
This is why the provisional score may change after the final answer key.
If your expected score changes slightly after the final key, do not panic. It can happen when a challenge is accepted, an answer is revised, or a question is dropped.
You should challenge only if you are confident that the provisional answer is incorrect.
Do not challenge because:
Challenge only when you have strong proof from standard textbooks, NCERT, or authentic academic references.
Before challenging, ask yourself:
Once you calculate your expected score, do not immediately panic or make big decisions.
Follow this order:
Stay calm. Wait for the final answer key and result. Start collecting counselling documents and stay updated about counselling notifications.
Do not assume anything too early. Cutoffs depend on difficulty level, number of candidates, category, state quota, seat matrix and counselling trends. Wait for result and official counselling data.
Do not make emotional decisions immediately. First, check whether your score calculation is correct. Then wait for the OMR response sheet and final answer key. After that, discuss your realistic options with mentors.
Take expert help. Do not challenge blindly. A wrong or unsupported challenge will not help.
Avoid these mistakes:
Score calculation must be slow, careful and verified.
The NEET 2026 official provisional answer key by NTA has been released for the re-examination held on 21 June 2026. Students can now download the provisional key, check answers, estimate their score and raise challenges if needed.
But remember:
The provisional answer key is not the final result.
The individual OMR response sheet will be available separately.
Challenges should be raised only with proper proof.
The final answer key will decide the final evaluation.
The result will be declared after the final process is completed.
At VVT Coaching Chennai, our message is simple:
Do not calculate your score in panic. Calculate carefully, verify officially, challenge only if needed, and take the next step with proper guidance.
NEET is not only about writing the exam. It is also about handling every stage after the exam with clarity.
And that clarity can make a big difference.
