The first round of NEET UG Counselling 2026 has received another important update.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially revised the Round 1 counselling schedule, giving candidates additional time for registration, payment and choice filling. The revised notice was issued on 13 August 2026, and students participating in the All India counselling process should now follow these updated dates instead of the earlier schedule.
For thousands of students and parents, the change is welcome, but it also means one thing: do not rely on screenshots or an older counselling calendar saved on your phone.
The dates that matter now are the revised MCC dates.
Registration for Round 1 will remain available until 2:00 PM on 15 August 2026, while the payment facility will continue until 5:00 PM on the same day. Choice filling has been extended until 6:00 PM on 17 August, and choice locking will be available between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on 17 August 2026. MCC is scheduled to process the allotment on 18 August and publish the Round 1 result on 19 August 2026.

According to the official revised MCC schedule dated 13 August 2026, the Round 1 timeline is as follows:
| NEET UG 2026 Round 1 Event | Revised Date |
| Verification of tentative seat matrix | 4 August 2026 |
| Registration begins | 5 August 2026 |
| Last date for registration | 15 August 2026, up to 2:00 PM |
| Last date for fee payment | 15 August 2026, up to 5:00 PM |
| Choice filling | 6 August to 17 August 2026 |
| Choice filling closes | 17 August 2026, 6:00 PM |
| Choice locking | 17 August 2026, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM |
| Processing of seat allotment | 18 August 2026 |
| Round 1 seat allotment result | 19 August 2026 |
| Reporting/Joining at allotted college | 20–25 August 2026 |
| Verification of joined candidates’ data by institutes | 26 August 2026 |
Important: MCC has specifically stated that these timings will be followed according to server time. Candidates should therefore avoid waiting until the last few minutes to complete registration, payment or choice locking.
The most important change is the extension of the Round 1 process.
Candidates now have additional time to complete three crucial activities:
Under the latest schedule, registration can be completed until 2:00 PM on 15 August, with payment permitted until 5:00 PM. Choice filling continues until 6:00 PM on 17 August, while the locking facility will open at 10:00 AM on 17 August and close at 6:00 PM the same day.
The Round 1 allotment process will then take place on 18 August, followed by declaration of the result on 19 August 2026. Candidates receiving a seat will have 20 to 25 August to report to or join the allotted institution.
This is why students following an older counselling schedule need to update their plans immediately.
Candidates who have not yet completed their MCC Round 1 registration have a final opportunity under the revised schedule.
The registration window will remain open only until:
15 August 2026 – 2:00 PM
Payment can be completed until:
15 August 2026 – 5:00 PM
Both timings are based on MCC server time.
If you are planning to participate in Round 1, do not treat 2:00 PM as the time at which you should begin registration.
Complete the process much earlier.
Payment gateways, document checks, internet issues, OTP delays or simple form errors can become stressful when thousands of candidates are trying to use the portal close to a deadline.
Before clicking final submit, check your:
MCC’s current UG portal also provides specific instructions for candidates who need to apply for certain Delhi quota sections through registration unlocking. Candidates falling under such categories should carefully follow the instructions displayed by MCC before filling their choices.

The revised schedule gives candidates until:
17 August 2026 – 6:00 PM
to complete their Round 1 choice filling.
This extra time should not be used simply to add more colleges randomly.
It should be used to improve the order of your preference list.
This is one of the most misunderstood parts of medical counselling.
Suppose you have shortlisted 80 colleges. The important question is not whether all 80 are included. The real question is:
Are those 80 colleges arranged in the exact order in which you would genuinely prefer to join them?
Your first choice should be the college you would choose over every other available option.
Your second should be the college you would choose if the first were unavailable.
Then the third, fourth, fifth and so on.
Do not deliberately place a less preferred college higher simply because you think it is “safer.”
Your preference list should reflect what you actually want.
This is another deadline candidates must note carefully.
MCC has scheduled Round 1 choice locking for:
17 August 2026
from:
10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
according to server time.
Before locking your choices, review the complete list one final time.
Check:
Do not rush through the list simply because you have already reviewed it once.
Candidates often spend days preparing their choices and then make a last minute rearrangement that creates an avoidable problem.
After choice filling and locking close, MCC will process the Round 1 seat allotment on:
18 August 2026
The Round 1 result is scheduled for:
19 August 2026.
The allotment depends on factors including a candidate’s eligible choices, merit/rank, category and applicable seat availability under the counselling process.
A candidate’s preference order is therefore extremely important.
If multiple colleges are available to you according to the allotment process, the ordering of your submitted choices determines which preference is considered higher.
If you remember only five dates from this update, remember these:
15 August, 2:00 PM – Registration closes
15 August, 5:00 PM – Payment closes
17 August, 6:00 PM – Choice filling closes
17 August, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM – Choice locking
19 August – Round 1 seat allotment result
Reporting/joining is scheduled from 20 to 25 August 2026.
Take a screenshot, set reminders and complete the process ahead of the deadline.

The revision of the MCC NEET UG 2026 Round 1 schedule has given aspirants a little more breathing room.
Use it wisely.
If your registration is incomplete, finish it before the deadline.
If your choices are already filled, do not keep changing them without a reason. Instead, review the sequence carefully.
If you are still building your college list, compare your options based on your NEET rank, category, quota, previous counselling trends, fees, location and genuine college preference.
Most importantly, keep checking the official MCC website because counselling schedules and notices can change during the admission season. MCC itself has advised candidates to remain in touch with its website for further updates.
The exam may be over, but this stage is equally important.
A carefully prepared preference list can be the difference between simply getting a seat and getting the best available seat for your rank.
Confused about college preference order, previous cutoffs, AIQ vs State Quota, safe choices or your MBBS admission chances?
VVT Coaching helps NEET students and parents understand the counselling process and make more informed college decisions.
