The final few hours of NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 1 choice filling and choice locking are now underway.
According to the revised schedule issued by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), candidates can submit their Round 1 college and course preferences only until 6:00 PM on August 17, 2026. The choice-locking facility opened at 10:00 AM today and will also close at 6:00 PM, as per MCC server time. Round 1 seat allotment processing is scheduled for August 18, followed by the result on August 19.
For students and parents, this is not simply another deadline in the counselling calendar. The order in which colleges are placed can directly influence the seat that is eventually allotted.
At VVT Coaching, our advice to NEET aspirants at this stage is straightforward: do not rush your preference list just because the deadline is close. Review it carefully, make sure the order reflects what you genuinely want, verify the financial and eligibility conditions of every college, and only then lock the choices.

MCC revised the Round 1 schedule on August 13, 2026. Candidates participating in the counselling process should follow the revised dates rather than relying on an older schedule saved or circulated earlier.
| Round 1 Event | Revised Date |
| Seat Matrix Verification | August 4, 2026 |
| Registration | August 5 to August 15, 2026, up to 2:00 PM |
| Payment Facility | Up to 5:00 PM on August 15, 2026 |
| Choice Filling | August 6 to August 17, 2026, up to 6:00 PM |
| Choice Locking | August 17, 2026, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM |
| Seat Allotment Processing | August 18, 2026 |
| Round 1 Result | August 19, 2026 |
| Reporting / Joining | August 20 to August 25, 2026 |
| Verification of Joined Candidates’ Data | August 26, 2026 |
These timings are based on MCC server time. MCC has also advised candidates to keep checking its official website for subsequent notices or changes.
This is one of the biggest concerns among candidates today.
According to the official MCC 2026 counselling FAQ, if a candidate has filled and saved choices but does not manually lock them, the submitted choices will be automatically locked according to the counselling schedule.
However, VVT Coaching strongly recommends that students should not depend on automatic locking.
Manually locking the choices and retaining a copy of the final preference list gives you a clearer record of what was submitted.
More importantly, do not confuse saving choices with not filling choices at all. MCC makes it clear that registration alone is insufficient. Candidates must fill choices to be considered for allotment.
Suppose a student has shortlisted ten medical colleges.
Instead of trying to predict exactly which college the rank will produce, the student could order them like this:
The principle is simple:
Preference should determine the order. Probability should determine which colleges you include not which college you secretly prefer.
That distinction can make a major difference in counselling strategy.
At VVT Coaching, we recommend checking the following before confirming your Round 1 list:
MCC specifically advises candidates not to leave locking until the last minute because choices cannot be modified after they are locked.

Once the Round 1 choice filling and locking period ends at 6:00 PM on August 17, MCC will move to the seat allotment stage.
Seat allotment processing is scheduled for August 18, with the Round 1 allotment result scheduled for August 19, 2026. Reporting and joining will then take place from August 20 to August 25 under the revised schedule.
Candidates receiving a seat should not simply look at the college name and stop there.
You will need to decide what you want to do with that allotment and follow the appropriate MCC procedure.
Students do not need to wait until August 19 to organise their documents.
MCC’s 2026 bulletin lists key documents required during the joining/reporting process, including:
Candidates should also check whether the allotted institution requires any additional documents. MCC notes that original certificates are required for admission procedures where physical reporting applies.
Preparing these documents now can prevent unnecessary panic after the result.

NEET preparation may end with the examination, but securing the right medical seat requires one final skill: making informed decisions under pressure.
The Round 1 preference list should therefore not be treated as a formality.
Before locking your choices, review every detail carefully. Confirm the college, course, fee structure, eligibility, and final order so that you do not lose a better option due to a simple mistake.
Then check everything once more before you lock it.
For students participating in NEET UG Counselling 2026, VVT Coaching recommends relying on official MCC notices for deadlines and rules while using rank trends, college information and personal priorities to build the final preference strategy.
With the Round 1 choice filling window scheduled to close at 6:00 PM on August 17, candidates who are yet to complete the process should act well before the deadline rather than waiting for the final few minutes.
