NEET UG 2026 choice filling is now open, and students should handle this stage carefully because the college order can directly affect seat allotment. After the NEET result, this is the phase where candidates must arrange their preferred colleges and courses wisely.

As per MCC’s notice dated August 7, 2026, Round 1 choice filling for NEET UG Counselling 2026 started from 4:00 PM on August 7, 2026. Registered candidates can now log in and fill their choices based on rank, category, quota, fees, location, and previous cutoff trends.

For students hoping to secure an MBBS seat, however, this stage deserves considerably more attention than simply logging in and selecting a few well known medical colleges.

The order in which you place your choices matters.

Your NEET rank matters. Your reservation category matters. Seat availability matters. Your willingness to study outside your home state matters. College fees can matter enormously, particularly for deemed universities.

And most importantly, a college that is realistic for one student may be completely unrealistic or unnecessarily conservative for another.

Counselling portals can become crowded close to deadlines. More importantly, hurried choice filling often leads to a different problem: students begin making emotional decisions instead of strategic ones.

Enter your preferences early, review them carefully, discuss them with your family and then make your final changes before locking.

Made a Mistake During MCC Registration? There Is Still Time to Correct It

This is one of the most useful updates for Round 1 candidates.

MCC has activated the Reset Registration / Unlock Registration facility.

Candidates who entered incorrect information or selected a wrong option while registering can rectify their registration details until:

11:00 AM on August 12, 2026

MCC confirmed this facility through an official notice issued on August 7. 

Students who know there is an error in their application should not ignore it and hope that it will not matter during allotment or document verification.

Correct it while the official correction facility is available.

Instead of creating a random college list, divide your possibilities into practical groups.

1. Aspirational Choices

These are colleges where the previous admission trend may be stronger than your present rank position, but which are still worth including if you genuinely prefer them.

There is nothing wrong with having ambitious choices at the top of the list.

2. Realistic Choices

This section is extremely important.

These are colleges where your NEET rank, category and historical admission pattern suggest a meaningful possibility.

For many students, the quality of this part of the preference list determines how effective their counselling strategy becomes.

3. Safer Choices

These are colleges where admission appears more achievable relative to your rank.

They provide protection if the higher preferences do not work out.

4. Backup Choices

Depending on the student’s goals and budget, this may include additional private colleges, deemed universities or BDS options.

But there is one crucial rule:

Never add a college simply because you can. Add it only if you are genuinely prepared to accept the seat under the applicable counselling rules and fee structure.

Don’t Copy Someone Else’s NEET College Preference List

This happens more often than students realise.

A rank list circulates on WhatsApp or Telegram. Someone labels it:

“Best MCC Choice Filling Order 2026.”

Hundreds of students copy it.

That can be a serious mistake.

A preference list that works for another candidate may not work for you because the two of you may differ in:

• NEET All India Rank
• Category
• domicile
• budget
• preferred states
• travel restrictions
• college type preference
• willingness to choose deemed universities
• MBBS versus BDS preference
• family circumstances

There is no single universal “best” choice list.

There is only a best choice list for your specific admission situation.

Should You Fill Only Colleges You Expect to Get?

No.

One of the most common counselling mistakes is making the preference list too short.

For example, a student identifies eight colleges based on an expected cutoff and fills only those eight.

The actual Round 1 movement then changes slightly.

The student misses a seat that could have been available at another acceptable college simply because that college was never included.

Check Fees Before Adding Deemed Universities

This deserves special attention.

Do not add a deemed university only because the college name is attractive or because you want “more options”.

Before putting a private or deemed institution in your choice list, understand:

• tuition fees
• hostel fees
• refundable and non-refundable charges
• security deposit
• other institutional charges
• bond conditions, where applicable
• location and living expenses
• applicable counselling rules

An MBBS admission is a multi-year financial commitment.

Parents should be part of this discussion before choice locking, not after an allotment appears.

AIQ Counselling and State Counselling Are Not the Same Process

This is another area that creates confusion every year.

MCC counselling and state counselling operate separately.

For government medical and dental colleges, MCC handles the applicable 15% All India Quota, while the remaining state controlled seats are generally handled through the respective state counselling authorities, subject to the applicable admission and reservation rules.

Students can therefore find themselves following more than one counselling portal at the same time.

You should not assume that completing MCC registration automatically completes your state counselling application.

NEET UG Counselling 2026 State Wise Status

The counselling process is not moving at exactly the same pace in every state.

Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026

Tamil Nadu students should pay particular attention here.

The Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee has already completed major parts of the application stage and, as of August 10, is displaying several MBBS/BDS related notices concerning eligibility grievances, Government Quota and Management Quota candidates, PwD certification and other verification matters.

The portal currently includes facilities for grievances from candidates declared ineligible under Government and Management Quotas as well as PwD-related uploads. 

At the time of verification for this article, the Tamil Nadu Round 1 MBBS/BDS choice  filling schedule had not yet appeared on the official Selection Committee portal.

What Tamil Nadu Students Should Do Now

Keep checking the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee website rather than relying solely on WhatsApp messages, YouTube claims or unofficial counselling groups.

Your Tamil Nadu preference strategy should also be prepared in advance.

Do not wait for the choice filling link to become active before researching colleges.

Kerala NEET Counselling 2026

Kerala’s Commissioner for Entrance Examinations has been collecting NEET UG 2026 result details from eligible candidates for medical and medical allied admissions.

The official Kerala notification fixed 12 noon on August 10, 2026 as the deadline for submitting the NEET result details and correcting specified defects. 

Kerala had therefore not yet reached the normal MBBS/BDS Round 1 option allotment stage covered by this update.

Andhra Pradesh NEET Counselling 2026

Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences has opened the application process for MBBS/BDS admission under the Competent Authority Quota for 2026–27.

The university’s official admission notification confirms that the state merit position will be determined using NEET UG 2026 scores along with the applicable eligibility and certificate-verification requirements.

Candidates in Andhra Pradesh should therefore focus on completing the state application and document requirements before the subsequent web-option/allotment stages.

Telangana NEET Counselling 2026

Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences has started registration for MBBS and BDS admissions under the Competent Authority Quota.

According to the official notification, eligible candidates can register and upload the required certificates until:

6:00 PM on August 12, 2026

KNRUHS will prepare the provisional merit position after certificate verification, following which web options and subsequent counselling stages will proceed according to official notifications. 

Karnataka NEET Counselling 2026

Karnataka’s UGNEET process through the Karnataka Examinations Authority is already progressing through verification and counselling related activities.

The KEA portal has published UGNEET 2026 verification information, a verification slip facility and a provisional medical and dental seat matrix dated August 7, 2026. 

Karnataka candidates should therefore follow the KEA UGNEET portal closely for the applicable option entry and allotment timetable.

Punjab NEET Counselling 2026

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences has activated its NEET UG 2026 MBBS/BDS admission process for Punjab. The official BFUHS portal is carrying NEET UG 2026 admission notifications and counselling information. 

Punjab candidates should use the BFUHS admission portal for the latest merit list, choice filling and allotment instructions rather than depending on third party schedules.

Important Update for PwBD Candidates

Candidates applying under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category should pay special attention to the latest MCC notifications.

MCC issued an August 7 notice following an NMC addendum relating to assessment guidelines for PwBD candidates seeking MBBS admission.

The notice also confirms the constitution of appellate bodies for disability assessment, including centres associated with institutions in New Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Chennai and Kolkata. Madras Medical College, Chennai, is among the listed appellate boards.

PwBD candidates should therefore verify that their assessment and certificates comply with the latest official guidelines rather than depending on previous year procedures.

Documents Candidates Should Keep Ready

Even while choice filling is underway, keep your admission file organised.

Depending on the counselling authority, quota and category, commonly required documents may include:

First, complete your registration and payment well before the deadline.

Next, prepare your college list outside the counselling portal. Research the colleges before you begin rearranging hundreds of options online.

Then check every important factor:

College → Location → Fees → Category → Previous admission trend → Your preference → Backup value.

Once the order makes sense, enter it into the MCC portal.

Review it again.

And only then proceed towards final locking.
