NEET counselling is not over once you register on the MCC portal. One of the most important stages comes next: choice filling and choice locking.

This is where students decide which medical colleges and courses they want to be considered for during seat allotment. A good NEET rank is important, but the way you arrange and lock your choices can also affect the college you finally receive.

NEET Choice Filling 2026: Important Round 1 Dates

For MCC NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 1:

• Registration began on 5 August 2026
• Choice filling is scheduled from 6 August to 13 August 2026
• Choice locking starts at 4:00 PM on 12 August 2026
• Choice filling and locking close at 11:00 AM on 13 August 2026
• Round 1 seat allotment result is scheduled for 17 August 2026

Students should always recheck the latest schedule on the official MCC website before completing any counselling activity.

Step by Step NEET Choice Filling Process

Step 1: Complete MCC Registration

Register through the official MCC NEET UG counselling portal using your NEET application details.

Check your name, category, date of birth, email address and mobile number carefully.

Step 2: Complete the Application

Fill in the required personal, academic, category and bank details.

Review every field before final submission.

Step 3: Pay the Counselling Fee

Complete the required registration fee and security deposit payment.

Save the transaction receipt after successful payment.

Step 4: Check Available Choices

Open the list of colleges and programmes for which you are eligible.

Do not select colleges just because you recognise the name. Check the:

• Course
• Quota
• Fee structure
• Location
• Bond rules
• Eligibility

Step 5: Add Your Preferred Colleges

Add the colleges you would genuinely consider joining.

Students can generally submit many choices, so there is no advantage in keeping the list unnecessarily short.

At the same time, do not add a college you would never be willing to join.

Step 6: Arrange the Choices Carefully

This is the most important part.

Your number one choice should be the college you would select first if every option on your list were available.

Your safest college does not have to be placed first.

A safer college placed lower in the list can still be allotted if your higher choices are unavailable.

Step 7: Save and Review

Save the preference list and review it carefully before locking.

Check for:

• Wrong college order
• Incorrect quota
• Wrong course
• Unaffordable colleges
• Colleges with unacceptable bond conditions
• Missing preferred colleges

It is useful to download or print the unlocked list and review it once with your parent or counselling mentor.

What Is Choice Locking?

Choice locking is the final confirmation of your preference list for that counselling round.

Once choices are locked, candidates cannot normally add, remove or rearrange them.

This means you should never press the final lock button simply because you have finished adding colleges.

Review first. Lock only when you are completely satisfied with the list.

Saving and Locking Are Different

Saving stores your current list so you can return and edit it during the permitted window.

Locking confirms that the order is final.

If saved choices are not manually locked before the deadline, MCC may automatically lock them according to the counselling schedule.

Can Choices Be Changed After Locking?

No.

Once the choices are finally locked for the round, students should assume that the list cannot be edited.

That is why the final review matters so much.

Does Round 1 Choice Filling Apply to Round 2?

Students should not assume that one preference list will automatically continue throughout counselling.

Fresh choice filling is generally required in later MCC rounds for candidates seeking a new allotment or upgrade.
