The Eligibility for NEET, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA) was that a candidate should be at least 17 years of age as on 31st December 2018 and the upper limit was set at 25 years.
A lot of students were against the age limit as it limits students who are over 25 years to appear for NEET and in-turn secure a medical seat under any medical or dental institutions in India except for AIIMS & JIPMER.
The Delhi High Court, on May 11th, 2018 – dismissed pleas challenging a notification of that laid down the upper age limits of 25 and 30 for general and reserved categories respectively to apply for NEET.
However, on November 29th, 2018 – The Supreme Court of India allowed the candidates who fall outside the upper age limit to take the test.
A three-judge Bench led by Justice S.A. Bobde observed that “If they are allowed to appear in the examination, they shall take the examination provisionally subject to the final outcome of these matters (case)”.
The Supreme Court also directed the NTA to keep the application portals open by extending the deadline by one week which ends by Friday, the 7th of December.
So, if you are 25 years or older and wish to enroll in Medical / Dental Institution in India, this is your chance to apply for the NEET Exam! Good Luck to you!
