Now that the NEET Application Deadline has been closed, we can analyze the competition for NEET 2019. For the first time, candidates above the age of 25 years are allowed to appear for the NEET Exam. A Total of 5,144 Candidates who fall above the 25 age mark have registered for NEET 2019. Read on to understand the competition that the NEET aspirants would face in May 2019 to earn their way into the medical institutions of India.
Competition Growth over the Years:
A little over 11 Lakh students appeared for NEET in 2017, while over 15 Lakh students have applied for NEET 2019. The Total Number of Medical / Dental Seats available in India are 66,620 and 27,060 respectively. This shows us that there are potentially 16 candidates competing for each medical seat in India.
Applicant Stats and Analysis:
While analysing the candidates, we can understand the competition even further. Some of the key points to know regarding the NEET Applicants are listed below:
- Over 55% of all NEET Aspirants are women.
- 12 Transgender candidates have applied for NEET 2019.
- About 14% of all aspirants belong to the SC Category and over 6% of all aspirants belong to the ST Category.
- A total of 5144 Candidates who are over 25 years of age have applied for NEET after the Supreme Court’s Order.
- Maharashtra leads the list in terms of the number of applicants with over 2.2 lakh NEET Applicants from the state alone.
- Over 56,000 Candidates chose Delhi as their first choice.
